Lapwing - Main Aft Bulkhead

(Click on image for larger version)

The main aft bulkhead is installed supporting the forward end of the cockpit floor. The panel layout is in the traditional style, exactly as found on the original Lapwing built by Collins of Wroxham nearly 100 years ago. The starb'd aft quarter berth can be seen centre left and at bottom centre; the aperture for the vegetable draw which is beneath the entrance steps leading out to the cockpit. The wood used to construct this bulkhead (and indeed the cockpit furnishings behind) has all been sealed with natural varnish to stabilise its moisture content, in the first stage towards a high gloss varnish finish. In contrast the saloon bulkheads in the left and right foreground, are as yet untreated and thus appear very much lighter, they will darken to match the other timber as soon as oil or varnish are first applied.
